BLUE TULIP DESIGNS' STORY

__

Blue Tulip Designs is home to artsy originals, funky gifts, and one-of-a-kind creations for seekers of that “unique” piece.

Blue Tulip Designs was established by artist and superwoman of endless secret superpowers Theresa Ratcliff (me), as an outlet for ideas, projects, and designs that are constantly competing for my attention, and a means to channel all the crazy that lies within.

Early on in life, I did what most of us do to pay the bills, I worked and earned a Business Degree, as well as extensive experience in accounting, management, customer service, and so much more. I also worked as a floral designer, planning weddings and events, but I knew that my true passion was creating art.

I decided well into my adult life to go back to school and focus on developing my skills as an artist. I became involved with the local arts community while I attended and graduated from Centenary College, earning a degree in Fine Arts with a focus on Museum Management. This was no ordinary feat with two teenage daughters, a two-hour daily commute, and working in addition to my volunteer commitments, but I did it!

I have coordinated and presented art exhibits, art markets, assisted artists with proposals, coordinated art exhibits for fundraisers, advocated at the state and local levels for arts funding, assisted in the restructuring and planning for art events, created new art events, and the list goes on. Somewhere along the line it became evident that my little place in this world was truly in the arts. As interest in my artwork and talents grew, and I realized the viability of owning an art business, Blue Tulip Designs was born.

I read once that to create art is to express on the outside what we feel on the inside. For me, this means that art is intended to evoke emotion, stir reaction, and inspire thought. Whether you are creating or observing – Art becomes reflection of what you feel and art becomes a part of who you are.

I am a native of Louisiana, land of dinosaur-sized mosquitoes, orgasmic-inducing food, and humidity so thick you can cut it with a knife. I currently reside in Abita Springs with my family and entourage of rescued pets. It is my innermost desire to spend my days in the gloriousness of my studio space creating all the things, but as the “Momma Hen” I have yet to successfully figure out how to hide from all my chicks and make that actually happen.

I hope you enjoy the crazy as much as I enjoy making it!

LOVE TO YOU,

Theresa
